Sapphire Stone Lore

Sapphire and diamondKnown to be the fall gem stone of the season, Kings wore sapphire as a defense against harm. It is believed that the wearer of this stone attracted divine favor and protected the wearer from envy. Sapphire represents truth, sincerity and consistency.

Did you know that Prince Charles chose a blue sapphire for Princess Diana's engagement ring? Sapphire engagement rings are taken as an expression of commitment and loyalty of one's heart.

Sapphire is a variety of the mineral species corundum. Sapphires occur in all colors of the spectrum with the exception of red, which is the ruby. The name sapphire is derived from the word 'sapphiros', which was actually used for lapis lazuli in Roman times. Today, sapphire is mined in Australia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Other producers are Burma, Kenya, Kampuchea and Tanzania.
